Holistic Massage

Practitioners: Julie Adams, Judith Peplow, Ashley Youngs

Holistic Massage draws on techniques from Swedish Massage and from other massage traditions, combining them with the natural sensitivity of the therapist to meet the needs of each individual client. These days, stress related disorders are one of the most common reasons that people visit their GP. Recognising that stress and illness affect not only the physical body, but also our emotional, spiritual and mental wellbeing, Holistic Massage encourages the body's natural healing ability, balancing the whole body.

A massage session can help to reduce muscular and joint pain, reduce stress levels and aid relaxation. It can improve circulation, nervous function and joint mobility. Conditions such as back pain, arthritis and digestive problems can be eased with a course of holistic massage. A regular treatment can also aid relaxation and boost overall wellbeing.

Holistic Massage means treating the 'whole' of the individual - Mind, Body & Spirit. The massage is tailored to the needs of the individual, taking in to account their history, their emotional state and any pain or injuries.
Rather than performing the same set sequence of massage techniques on every single client, holistic massage means assessing the clients needs and then tailoring the massage for maximum benefit.

The Technique

Using techniques from Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage, Holistic massage is given using 100% Natural Organic Cold Pressed Oil applied directly on to the skin. The client wears their underwear (removal of bra is optional) and is mostly covered by warm towels; one part of the body is uncovered, massaged, and then covered up before moving on to another part of the body.

What is Swedish Massage?

Swedish massage is the most commonly offered and best known type of massage. It was developed by a Swedish physiologist, Henri Peter Ling in 1812. It uses a firm but gentle pressure to improve the circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, improve flexibility and create relaxation.

Swedish massage is the foundation for other types of Western massage, including sports, deep tissue and aromatherapy.

What is Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep Tissue Massage uses Swedish Massage techniques but with extra pressure, often using forearms, elbows and two hands or thumbs.

The Oil

100% Natural Organic Cold Pressed Oils are used for the massage. Sweet Almond Oil is a favourite used for it's soothing and moisturising properties, though Sunflower oil is a good alternative for people with nut allergies.

The Bed

The bed is a very comfortable massage table raised to around hip height from the ground. It is covered with a 100% cotton towling cover and then covered again with soft couch roll which, along with the towels are changed with each client.

The Time

The length of treatment can vary between half an hour and two hours.  The most beneficial treatment times for a holistic full body oil massage are either 75 minutes or 90 minutes, depending on the client's needs.

The benefits of massage are well known. A massage can have a positive effect on a person’s wellbeing, relaxing both the mind and the muscles.  By relaxing and stretching the muscles, massage can help to reduce any pain or tightness you may feel as well as releasing endorphins, calming the mind and lifting the spirit. It can also have a beneficial effect on joint mobility and promote the circulation and movement of blood and lymph fluid.

Arnold

Having booked in for problems with my legs Judith Peplow has resolved more issues than I knew I had in my back, arms and legs. She has enabled me to continue to walk the moors as well as my farming life. With follow up sessions to settle any new issues I would recommend her body massage to anyone.

Gail Fursdon

Ash makes you feel so relaxed and at ease. I had a pedicure and back, neck and shoulder massage. I left feeling rejuvenated and walking in air. Would highly recommend and worth so much more than you pay.
